Our Story

Our why

I founded MyApiary in 2012 because I wanted to combine my engineering and design skills with a growing passion for beekeeping and make an impact on such an essential primary industry. I also saw an industry made up largely of family-owned businesses that were passionate and dedicated to their craft but without some of the tools and systems that I had been part of developing in other sectors. I wanted to make a contribution—I wanted to see these businesses thrive.

MyApiarys’ initial focus for the first 4 years was remote hive sensor technology. While our solution won a number of innovation awards, we soon discovered that the primary challenge beekeepers were facing was actually in managing their operations and businesses rather than accessing significant amounts of hive metrics. To understand the problem more deeply, we spoke with many beekeepers and partnered significantly with a number to really understand the problems they were facing. We learned that while more data was interesting, it ultimately had limited additional business value. Beekeepers already struggled to utilise effectively the information they had.

As we’ve supported dozens of our customers over many seasons, the key principle we’ve observed again and again is that the key to a successful beekeeping business is less about hive husbandry (although good hive husbandry is still vital to success), but rather the development of good business processes, staff culture and management systems -  with a standout feature being simply the ability to easily manage staff and track workflow effectively during the very peak period of the harvest season.

This is our focus today.
Efficient record keeping and task management with insightful reporting, helping you track what really matters.

Empower your Team

Your team is your most valuable asset, but it can also be your biggest liability.

Empowering your team is one of the most significant factor in your business's success. Give your team the information they need to succeed, and watch productivity soar. Our dashboards ensure everyone is on the same page, so nothing gets missed.

Engage your team's collective mind by getting them to note all apiary inputs and environmental observations as they work with efficient in-field data entry. You can customise the Jobcard template to your own standard operating procedures (SOPs), making sure procedures are followed to the standard you need.

Improve the Phycology safety and wellbeing of your staff by allowing team leaders to show initiative and take on responsibility by planning and scheduling their own work while still being held accountable without the need to micro-manage.

Track what really matters

Transformation comes from new learning, seeing beyond what’s currently possible with pen-and-paper records or spreadsheets and eliminating hours spent converting field records into insight or compliance reports. Our in-depth reporting instantly turns your data into addressable insights – highlighting areas where you can make substantial gains.

Track progress throughout the season. Are you hitting your objectives? Compare one season to another.

Analyse your management history and the impacts on hive health, productivity and margins.

Review important metrics such as apiary cost, resource utilisation and consumable usage. What regions and sites are most profitable? Are some areas costing more than they are worth? Where do you focus your energy to achieve the best results when you have limited time?

Turn insights into profits

With addressable insights, your data becomes operational faster than you might think. You can now adjust your operational plan with measurable results. Identify key issues such as the leading causes of hive loss by region, the gross-margin of targeting a particular honey crop, and the efficiency of particular hive management practices.

This allows you to make continuous improvements, maximising productivity and margins while reducing managerial overhead having a direct effect on your production costs per hive.

Need to report to a board or make an insurance clam.
With your hives numbers, movements and all inputs, including losses like deadouts, you can take care of regulatory reporting with a few clicks.
